Jayson broke his collarbone in this morning’s bike race. He has been working like a dog over the past months to get into great form and it’s a shame he has to sit out for a few weeks. Don’t worry Face, you will be dropping us again in no time.

Here are some numbers.

I competed in over 50 races. Totaling 1636 miles and over 71 hours.
I loged 8509 training miles with a sum of more than 566 hours.
All of that totals to 10145 miles and over 26 full days on the bike in 12 months.

I couldn’t think of a better way to round out a big year on the bike than to participate in the Rapha Festive 500. I managed to eke out 501km between Dec 24 & Dec 31.

Lets hope 2013 is an even greater year, in numbers and accomplishments.

Back in August Deux North took a group of riders to the Adirondacks to learn a bit about passion, pain and themselves. Directed by Aaron Vaquez whose talent and kindness is a blessing and inspiration.

If you are new around here, Deux North is brand I run with my little brother Dylan that’s telling a different kind of story. It is a story of unabashed childish freedom and thrill. This is about the past, happening now. Friendship, adventure, and experience are your characters in a story about city life told amongst nature, and the last one there is a rotten egg.

You can watch our other videos here, and buy socks or a t-shirt here.

HUNT2: THE FIRST TIME WE WERE COLD

Hunt 2 was the first time we were cold in a long time. The temperature dropped nearly 20 degrees on our 8 mile journey up to the summit of Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks. The air at the top of that mountain left us shivering the sweat off of ourselves, and scattered around a picnic table with peanut butter & Nutella sandwiches in hand, the Deux North Hunters took a moment to reflect on the last 24 hours of hunt 2: a hallway sized van, a demolition derby, bacon burgers, maple shakes, passion, pouring rain, a remote campsite, a smokey fire, and a round of stories. The day combined 50 miles and 7,000 feet of climbing over the sometimes nearly impassable dirt and gravel roads of the Adirondack Mountains. From atop the summit we could see some 40 miles out, but we didn’t stay long. Stuffing our jerseys with local maps, and tourism pamphlets, we bombed down the washboard memorial highway, smelling burning carbon the whole way down. At the bottom, there is still 35 miles to go, but everyone knew - we had found what we came to hunt.

PHOTOSET: NEVERSINK INVITATIONAL ROAD RACE
This past Saturday marked the second annual Neversink Road Race, organized by Dave Trimble of Red Hook Crit. Twenty seven riders participated in the 71 mile race through the beautiful trafficless roads of the Catskills, with some 6500 feet of steep climbs in between.

“The Neversink race is designed to mimic those hard training rides with friends that always somehow turn into a race. There was nothing on the line except the desire to ride all day and produce as much fatigue and pain as possible. The Neversink race is considered an “Invitational” but in reality any one can race. The difference is you are either officially invited or have to contact to me to be added to the start list. This results in a field that is full of friends who know each other well. I’m not throwing up a link on bikereg for a bunch of random cyclists looking for prize money and upgrade points. Despite the friendly atmosphere the competition is approached as Keith Snyder describes “as a blood sport”. There is only glory on the line so there is nothing to lose and everything to gain from riding beyond your limit. ” - David Trimble

I was lucky enough to hop in the trunk of the lead car to be able to photograph the entire race and document the riders enter their pain caves. Above are my favorite moments of the event.
